Happenings - Soaring Eagle... Unit Commissioners Wanted... Looking forward to 2012 we have one area that can really set our district apart from the rest of the council. We have continued to try and enhance our District Commissioner Staff over the past 2 years. Our current Commissioner Staff in Soaring Eagle is quite small and we don't have enough current volunteers to do the task required. The role of the Commissioner staff is to make unit visits and write a short report about their visit. This allows our council staff and other key district volunteers to recognize when a scout unit is struggling. The idea is to catch an issue or problem early so that it doesn't effect the participation of youth, parent and volunteers. If a problem persists there are chances youth and parents will no longer find value and in turn the unit may fold. It is important to ensure all youth receive the same high level of program, no matter what the size of the unit.  When you break it down, the role of a Unit Commissioner is to commit to 2-3 units (Cub Scout Packs or Boy Scout Troops in your area) and making a unit visit once in the Winter/Spring and once in the Fall for each unit. A unit visit can be attending a meeting or simply picking up the phone. You will be assigned to units in your immediate area as to minimize travel. After the visit, a 10-15 minute online report is filled out. The online report is a simple questionnaire that is very easy to access and submit. When you add up the time commitment, you are looking at roughly 8-10 hours per year!  If helping to ensure we continue and grow a high level of Scouting in our district, this is a volunteer position for you. Here you get training and resource materials that will give you the ability to perform this valuable service to units right in your area. -New Module: Weather Smart Training from the Online Learning Center   Boy Scout Leader Trainings: Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 University of Scouting. All day.  Many sessions offered.  Lunch is included in the registration.
