Becoming an Eagle Scout

Eagle Scout Rank Requirements  -  NESA's Trail to Eagle web site, including the Project workbook  -  Eagle Scout Rank Application (pdf)

Eagle Scout Service Project  All Eagle Scout candidates must complete a Leadership Service Project. After finding a project with some initial planning and getting the approval of the project's sponsoring organization and your unit leadership, it must also go to the Council's Eagle Scout Board of Review for approval before you can start the work of the project itself.  The finished Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, including all signatures signifying completion, must accompany the Eagle Scout Rank Application  Failure to get advance approval from the Council Eagle Board before starting work will result in likely rework or possible forfeiture of time to that project concept. The Council Eagle Board meets the second week of the month; please submit your project workbook for consideration before the second Tuesday.  Roughly 40 percent of projects are approved by the board on the first submission - don't assume they'll gloss over deficiencies just because you have a need to start by a certain date (e.g., fall frost).

The Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook is provided when the Life Scout Rank award is received and is available online from NESA's web site, in several formats.

No matter what your interests, every public organization has a 'wish list' of things they're looking for someone to step forward and help them accomplish.  Some have plans, others have a grand vision that might require several Eagle Scout project efforts to complete. Many have some funding available, or ideas on how to procure the materials needed. Be on the lookout for project ideas where they've already done all the planning (you're not there just for labor) or most work must be done by specialized contractors (not much chance to show planning and leadership), or aren't large enough to be a true Eagle Scout project (can several related items be integrated?).

Here are some ideas of regional organizations, and who to contact, that would appreciate a Life Scout's consideration for an Eagle project:

Human Powered Trails - Coulee Region trails maintenance group
Trail construction, repair, surveying, signage
Your Church/Synagogue - Pastor/Minister/Reverend/Priest
Facility improvements, outdoor worship and contemplation areas.
Your School - Principal (and School Board Facilities Chairman)
Special areas for teaching, natural displays.
Your Community - Mayor/Administrator
Community park improvements, street markings, special projects.
Your Area youth sports volunteer organizations - Board President, or other board member
Think of items to help players and spectators.
Your Area volunteer organizations - community director or other board member
Special community collections, unusual work projects.
Your State Park, or State Trail - Ranger at nearby State Park
Trail work, site improvements, special projects
Your County Park - County Facilities Department Director
Lots of special projects, including wildlife habitat.
