Scouter Training

BSA has rolled out their Online Learning Center.  It includes the For-Credit (like Youth Protection) and Not-For-Credit (like Weather Hazards) courses.  You will need to register once, but then it's pretty painless.  Once you're in, select the area that you're interested in... Don't be afraid to look around.

Here's another BSA Training site to access the same courses..  www.myscouting.org

Training Resources
Access to Training Resources helps to build the confidence of leaders, which in turn builds the confidence of unit members in their leaders.  NEW:  Online Courses!  Fast Start, Supplemental

Wood Badge
Wood Badge is the most advanced training available for Scout Leaders who are involved in the programs of the Boy Scouts of America. Baden-Powell designed it so that Scouters could learn, in as practical a way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting.

National Youth Leadership Training
Previously called Junior Leader Training, this improved course is like Wood Badge for youth. Do you have scouts 13-16 years old? Do you wish they would practice better leadership skills in your Troop? Are they ready for fun and challenging activities with their peers? Are they ready to gain confidence by showing what they can do?

Powder Horn
Powder Horn is a resource management course designed to motivate and prepare adult Venturing leaders to support the Ranger Award. This course will give all participants an opportunity to experience the Ranger program themselves as if they were the Venturing youth.

Powder Horn is not currently offered by the Gateway Area Council. Contact your District Executive, or a Training Committee member, for the schedule at nearby councils.

District Training
Each District has a "Training Committee" which serves all phases of Scouting. Cub Scout Leader training is offered in each district, as that's closer and more convenient for the Packs and their Leaders.

Trainer Development Conference
The Trainer Development Conference is designed to develop and improve the skills of both veteran and prospective trainers..

University of Scouting
Held the first Saturday in November, this full day allows training for all Leaders and Venturing Crew Officers. The Training Team of Gateway Area Council presents this opportunity for supplemental training for all adult leaders.  Thanks to  St. Patrick's Church School, Onalaska, WI

University of Commissioner Science
You have the opportunity to earn the Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees in Commissioner Science. A win-win opportunity - you gain knowledge and a degree. The units you represent gain an experienced, educated and positive "friend" in Scouting. ALL commissioners and prospective commissioners are urged to attend this training for the benefit of our Scouting Youth.
